Hello All

I have downloaded the free version of System Scheduler, which seems nice and simple to use- (luckily for me )- (I don't mind crashing tracks etc on my station! lol) but the only thing I cannot seem to make it do is to close Streamer at the end of the day-

It has satisfactorily opened Streamer and Winamp today, and the tests I did last night closed Winamp (and therefore oddcast) so it stopped the broadcast quite happily, but it will not close streamer.

I think this is because I have set all of the 'programme' scheduling by telling System Scheduler to maximise Winamp and then sending the appropriate key presses (i.e. 's' for shuffle, 'r' for repeat etc etc, Alt+F4 to close).

However, on all of the test runs, the scheduler attempted to open Streamer and a window with the message 'This copy of Streamer is already running' appeared.

As scheduler will only work on the active window, it simply closes the message window and Streamer stays minimised and running.

I suppose it doesn't matter much as closing Winamp controls the broadcast quite happily, but it just seems a waste to have Streamer running while I'm in bed and nothing is being broadcast!.

I just wondered if anyone had had this problem or can suggest a solution- or maybe a better scheduling method- I have looked at the various listed here and they all look a bit complicated to me!

Thanks

L

Where is the scheduler of which you speak? Alt-F4 will close Streamer. I won't know until I try this.. and I still may not know. Might be a bit. Working on other things for a few days yet.

The scheduler I have is THIS one, Kmeat; Splinterware System Scheduler v3.53
I appreciate you're all busy just now, I was just wondering (without any urgency!) if anyone had any thoughts or recommendations...

To anyone interested:

I have found a way of closing Streamer by:

1) Setting Scheduler to close all other active programs.

2)Opening Windows Task Manager, then sending an 'Enter' keypress which simultaneously minimises Task manager and Maximises Streamer.
(NB: This only works if Streamer is top of the list on the task manager 'applications' tab, hence closing all other programs first, or else the 'Enter' key press will maximise whatever is at the top of the list.)

3)Specify a delay of a few seconds (Scheduler lets you do this), then have it send an 'ALT+F4' keypress which will close Streamer.

I set System Scheduler to 'manage' my Broadcasting for today, and it DID start Streamer and Winamp at the appropriate times, but my criticism would be that although key presses can be specified, they do seem a little unreliable for enabling the 'Shuffle' mode in Winamp.

I am guessing this is mainly because they only apply to the active window at the time- I have tried setting an event, for example, 1 minute before the important event (For example, running a particular playlist etc) to send the relevant keypresses to maximise the window ('Window' key plus letter M), but it does not always seem to work...

I suppose I will have to overcome my techno-fear and download a proper tool for Winamp...

Will keep you all posted!
