My radio station's "Now Playing" info is listed on streamer's yellow page listing with slightly different information. It has a space character inserted at the second character from the end. Instead of "japanaradio", it says "japanaradi o". It seems to affect only URLs in the info. Is this by design or is it a bug?

I'm on vacation at the moment and where I"m staying the internet is down. I'm only on a cel phone connection right now to reply to this. As soon as I have a solid connection again I will check into it further. Please keep your station online so I can troubleshoot. Thanks.

It isn't a bug, it's the effect of an 'anti-page-widening' hack.
If a broadcaster where to have a long line of letters with no spaces as their station info, the web browser displaying the station list would make the page display very wide to accomodate this line unbroken. This messes up the page layout for all the other stations too. So to prevent this the YP server inserts a space if it sees a 'word' more than 32 characters long. In your case the space is being inserted near the end of the url.

Hi,

Iain or kmeat:
Use an "Small Hyphen" (& #173;) to force a line break when the word is too long (no space after the '&'! i insert it cause the forum does not display it)

Code:
MyCoolStationHasA& #173;FarTooLongNameFor& #173;TheYellowPages

will displayed:

MyCoolStationHasA-
FarTooLongNameFor-
TheYellowPages

If the container is wide enough to display the word, the hyphen will not be shown and the word will remain unbroken.

You can try it, it's a hack and maybe not compatible to all browser / versions.

There is a <wbr> tag too but it's non-standard html (works in IE and ???)
