Dear volunteers
Can you find program download sites where I could put Streamer, and post the url's for the submission pages here please. Time for a publicity drive. I really should have thought of this before too.

Just a tough.

Would it be not better to have a more definitive version before diffusing at large?
Casual users don't seem to like to do many upgrades.

I don't think so. The development of Streamer is an ongoing thing and has been for 18+ months, and will continue for a while.

It isn't the only p2p streaming app out there, and with p2p apps there is a 'critical mass' effect. The best does not automatically become the most popular, look at soulseek and kazaa for example. More people seem to have heard of the competition than have heard of Streamer, so we need to raise its profile and attract more users.
Getting casual users who need to update is better than not getting these users at all. And a lot of 'download' sites just point at your own site anyway. And a lot now use the 'PAD' automated system for download site updates.

If you can do PAD, then:

http://fileflash.com/?action=submit
(it's a webpage, just because of the 'action')

Ian, I have been receiving weekly emails from "Tu-Dogs" which deals mainly in freeware and shareware applications. Listing with them might be a good way to get the word out to the beta crowd.

Here's the webmasters email ivan@tudogs.com

You'd probably do well on CNET's Download.Com, but I see they charge $79 to list a program:

Quote:
Submitting your free or trial software product through Upload.com gets you listed in CNET Networks' download library, which delivers 2.5 million downloads per day. The basic processing fee is $79 to list your product in Download.com, ZDNet Downloads, and MSN Downloads.

I know that it sucks to pay for it, but I'll pledge 20 bucks towards that. If only three more of us pledge 20 bucks, then Iain will have enough to do it. Whadda say guys? We've been using it for free for months - why not kick in a couple of bucks towards this worthwhile cause?

PS - I ****THINK**** that Tucows is free (http://author.tucows.com/), but I'm not an author to register to find out. They're pretty good, but not as powerful as Download.com, ZDNet Downloads, and MSN Downloads.
