Hey everyone, I run ExtremeRadio1077.com at http://www.extremeradio1077.com and we have been on for some time but just started recently testing the StreamerP2P platform, so far so good. We have ran under Icecast, Shoutcast, and most recently Windows Media. But we have added StreamerP2P as a second choice for our listeners on broadband looking for 128k MP3 audio!

We are primarly alternative rock mixed in with classic rock and modern rock genres. Give it a go, if you dont like us then let me know. But, if you do also let me know. I would love to hear some feedback about what you think of the sound and overall station. Thanks much.

You can go to http://www.extremeradio1077.com/playing.php to listen in.

We have varies shows throughout the day, mainly at night this way we can play more music for the work day crowd. We stream in Windows Media and StreamerP2P using SAM Broadcaster as our automation tool.

If you are worried about bandwidth, I would switch to -0.6 Quality OGG Vorbis. Streamer P2P decodes it same as MP3 and that quality results in about a 52-54K stream that sounds just about as good as 128k MP3. I have been using it for about a year and a half and my listeners think it is great. Good Luck!

Kevin

I might also add that while there is a good amount of people being upgraded to connections that can upload more than 128k now, there are still many that only have 128k upload and if that is the case, those people will not be able to listen to that stream reliably with Streamer because they must be able to upload at least one copy of the stream.

I second that you should really check out Ogg Vorbis with Streamer as your alternative. :)

For listeners who arent to tech savy and dont know all the ins and outs of StreamerP2P, basically who listen via StreamerP2P activeX plugin. Will OGG play good on StreamerP2P just as MP3 does? If so, I will switch right now. :)

It's all included in Streamer. But keep in mind that your Active X applet doesn't work with people like me that use Netscape/Mozilla, etc. You should also have directions on how to download for netscape users... We tend to be a little more tech savvy anyway. ;)

And if you want to hear what a good Ogg Vorbis sounds like, tune in my stream... or if you want to see a sample for netscape people, check out the page I send people to. For both, go here: http://members.cox.net/powerfm/streaming.html

Cheers!

Kevin

WOW, talk about tooting ones own horn...

While PowerFm does have an adequate sound, I would suggest Kmeat for an example of superior audio quality, and as far as netscape folks being more tech savvy, I would like to point out this recent post by PowerFM

OOOPS! My bad! I must be thinking of another post... I could have swore he said he switched to Oddsock, had problems with oddsock, something...

I tried SAM... for like 10 minutes... too dang confusing to me. I like simple as possible... says the guy running 7 plug-ins on his winamp.

But thats just my opinion

check out http://antubert.com for another example of how you could do it.
